TOLEDO, Ohio — Body camera footage released by the Toledo Police Department shows an officer carrying a woman from a burning home after smoke and heat made visibility difficult inside, according to WTVG/13abc.

The fire broke out at a home on Wade Street on Monday, June 22, 2026, the station reported. WTVG said the video shows the officer entering the home, calling out to residents and trying to locate people inside.

Officer forced open blocked door, found woman with walker

According to WTVG, Toledo Police said there was heavy smoke and intense heat inside the home, making it difficult to see. The officer heard a woman deeper inside the house, forced open a blocked door, moved debris from the entrance and found the resident holding onto her walker.

“Ma’am, come with me. I’m trying to help you — we’ve got to get out, you’re going to die,” the officer warned, according to WTVG’s account of the bodycam video.

The officer told the woman to put down the walker and promised he would carry her out as flames spread. After getting her outside, he asked whether anyone else was still in the home. WTVG reported that the woman’s brother was also at the house, and the officer called for additional help from fire crews to reach him.

Bodycam captures rescued woman thanking officer

WTVG reported that the body camera footage later shows the woman thanking the officer for saving her.

The Toledo Police Department did not disclose the officer’s name in the report reviewed by ThinBlueNews. The article therefore identifies the agency and rescue circumstances without guessing at the officer’s identity or adding unverified victim details.

Why the first minutes matter

For Support Law Enforcement readers, the Toledo video is another example of patrol officers becoming part of the first lifesaving minutes before a scene is fully controlled. Firefighters and medics remain essential to the rescue chain, but the first public-safety professional through the door may have to make the immediate decision that gets someone out alive.
