Officer spotted smoke before the fire was reported
Cleveland 19 reported July 22 that Officer Cory Dorsey saw heavy black smoke while on patrol. Police said Dorsey and Sgt. Michael Roberts responded quickly and notified the Springfield Township Fire Department about a fire that had not yet been reported.
When Roberts reached the home, he learned a 13-year-old girl remained inside, according to the department account. Police said Roberts entered despite the heat and smoke and found the teen in and out of consciousness.
Officers worked together to pull the teen to safety
The department said Roberts located the girl and, with Dorsey's assistance, pulled her from the home. Cleveland 19 published approximately 38 seconds of department body-camera footage showing the officers' arrival, visible flames and portions of the response.
