Crews found a mother holding her child outside a window
Officials with Toledo Fire and Rescue told WTVG that firefighters found the mother at a rear window when they reached the home near Upton Avenue and Grand Avenue before noon July 25.
Firefighters raised a ladder and brought the child down before helping the mother to safety, according to the local report. Both were alert when they were taken to a hospital. WTVG said their conditions were not known at the time of publication.
ThinBlueNews is not publishing the child's name, home address or unreported medical details. The available public account does not identify either resident.
Heavy smoke remained after a couch fire
Fire officials said the fire had been on the home's second floor and involved a couch. Although the flames were out by the time Toledo Fire and Rescue crews arrived, heavy smoke remained inside, according to WTVG.
The cause remained under investigation. This report does not speculate about how the fire began or who extinguished the flames before firefighters arrived.
A ladder became the safe path out
The response shows why fire crews arrive prepared for changing conditions even when visible flames have subsided. In this case, smoke blocked the ordinary way out, and firefighters created a safe route from the upper floor for a parent and young child.
