A State of Indiana statement issued on July 31, 2022 independently corroborates Shahnavaz's name, department and five years of Army service. Then-Gov. Eric Holcomb described him as a young public servant who returned to Indiana and rededicated himself to serving and protecting others.

In a 2025 anniversary message, Chesterfield Police Chief Joey Cole wrote on behalf of his department that Shahnavaz was not forgotten and that his service left a lasting mark across Indiana. That remembrance reflects how an officer's legacy can extend beyond one badge and one agency.
