ThinBlueNews remembers Police Officer Celena Charise Hollis of the Denver Police Department on the anniversary of her End of Watch, Sunday, June 24, 2012.
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, Officer Hollis was shot and killed after she intervened while trying to break up a fight at a jazz festival in Denver's City Park. ODMP records that she was transported to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.
ODMP lists Officer Hollis as a Denver Police Department officer who had served seven years with Denver after four years with the Detroit Police Department. ODMP also records that she was president of the Denver Black Police Officers Organization and was survived by her daughter.
The Denver Police Museum, in a 10th-anniversary memorial notice hosted with Denver Police Department participation, said the department, the museum and the Denver Black Officers Organization would gather to honor Officer Hollis' life, legacy and sacrifice.
This anniversary remembrance is offered with respect for Officer Hollis' family, her Denver Police Department colleagues, the Denver Black Police Officers Organization, and the community members who still remember her service in City Park and beyond.
Officer Hollis' End of Watch reminds us that courage can appear in a crowded public place, in the choice to step toward danger so others can be safe, and in the names a department keeps saying years later.
