Sergeant Chris Fisher

Warm Springs Police Department, Georgia
End of Watch: Tuesday, September 1, 2026

WARM SPRINGS, Ga. — ThinBlueNews remembers Sergeant Chris Fisher of the Warm Springs Police Department, whose End of Watch was Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

The Officer Down Memorial Page identifies Fisher as a 36-year-old sergeant with the Warm Springs Police Department and classifies his line-of-duty death as gunfire. ODMP records seven years of law-enforcement service.

GBI investigation

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said preliminary information indicates Fisher was on duty in his patrol car at the Meriwether Country Inn at about 11:57 p.m., after concluding an unrelated traffic stop. The GBI said another vehicle stopped beside the patrol car and its driver fired multiple shots, striking Fisher. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The GBI identified the suspected shooter as Jimmy Lee Steverson, 23, of Warm Springs. In a September 2 update, the bureau said Steverson was found during a South Carolina traffic stop with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead at a hospital. The GBI said the case remains under investigation and that its file will be provided to the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.

Local corroboration

Atlanta News First and FOX 5 Atlanta independently reported Fisher's identity, agency, on-duty status and the GBI's account of the shooting and subsequent search. This memorial omits graphic details and private family information.

Sergeant Chris Fisher is remembered for seven years of law-enforcement service and for the community and colleagues who now carry his memory.
