Mother's 911 call reported a gun fired inside the home
The 12 News report says the child's mother called 911 at about 9 p.m. June 13. She was away from the home and told dispatchers that her boyfriend had fired a gun into a wall while her 3-year-old son remained inside.
Gilbert officers responded to the reported firearm discharge. Police told the station that the 40-year-old man inside indicated he would not surrender peacefully, prompting the department's SWAT team to assess the situation.
