AUBURN, Washington — Two Auburn police officers have been honored after officials said their rapid response during a January CPR call helped save a man’s life.
Officers Mbaye and Hull received the Auburn Police Department’s Medal for Life Saving Recognition for their work on the case, according to a report by Auburn Examiner and an Auburn Police Department Facebook post.
The local report said officers were dispatched at 9:12 a.m. on Jan. 16, 2026, to a 7-Eleven for a report of CPR in progress after a caller reported that a male was slumped over near the front of a vehicle and began CPR.
According to Auburn Examiner, Valley Regional Fire Authority was also dispatched. The officers arrived in under a minute from the first officer being sent to the call.
The report said one officer took over chest compressions while the other retrieved an automated external defibrillator from a patrol vehicle. Officers also administered Narcan and cut away the patient’s clothing so further medical care could be provided, according to the report.
VRFA and King County Medic One later arrived and took over lifesaving efforts before transporting the patient to a hospital, Auburn Examiner reported.
Recognition for calm, fast action
The department’s recognition letter, visible in the Auburn Police post, says the officers’ “swift and decisive actions” had a direct and positive impact and ultimately contributed to saving the patient’s life.
The letter also says that without the officers’ quick response, calm and training, it was unlikely the patient would have survived.
Auburn Examiner reported that the Medal for Life Saving Recognition is awarded by the Auburn Police Department to officers whose actions directly contribute to saving a life.
For public-safety supporters, the case is another reminder that the first few minutes of a medical call can decide everything — and that patrol officers often become the first link in the chain of survival before medics arrive.
