WESTMINSTER, Colorado — A Westminster Police Department Animal Management Officer rescued a dog named Luna after the dog became trapped in a deep pond at a local golf course, according to a public department update.
Westminster Police said Animal Management Officer Wood responded May 19 to a report of a dog stuck in a pond. Because the water was too deep to safely reach Luna directly, the department said AMO Wood used a leash and towel to carefully lift the dog to safety.
The department later posted body-camera video of the rescue and said Luna was evaluated after being pulled from the water. Police said she was safely reunited with her family.
"With the water too deep to safely reach, AMO Wood used a leash and towel to carefully lift the pup to safety," Westminster Police wrote in the department's public post.
A Small Rescue With a Big Community Response
The rescue drew broad public attention after Westminster Police shared the video on Facebook. The public Facebook video showed tens of thousands of views and hundreds of reactions, with many commenters thanking the officer for helping a scared family pet.
People reported, citing a Westminster Police spokesperson and the department's video, that Luna had escaped through a gate in her family's yard near the golf course before she was found clinging to the side of the pond.
The facts are simple, but they are the kind of everyday call that often builds public trust: an officer found a safe way to solve a problem, protected herself from unnecessary danger, calmed a frightened animal, and got Luna back home.
