LEE COUNTY, Alabama — A Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputy is being recognized after officials said his CPR response during a crash-related medical emergency helped save a person’s life.
According to WTVM / FOX54 reporting, Deputy Scott Cone was named Piedmont Columbus Regional’s “First Friday Hero” after coming across a crash while heading home from work.
The report said Cone saw that a person at the crash scene was suffering a medical emergency. He began CPR and coordinated with dispatch until Emergency Medical Services arrived.
Piedmont officials said Cone’s actions helped save the person’s life and contributed to the person’s recovery in the weeks after the crash, according to WTVM.
Recognition for the first minutes before EMS arrives
The recognition ceremony was scheduled at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, where Piedmont leadership planned to honor Cone for the emergency response, the report said.
For Support Law Enforcement readers, the Lee County case is another example of how deputies can become the first link in the medical-care chain — using CPR, radio coordination and calm decision-making before paramedics can take over.
