IRONDALE, Ala. — Irondale Police Corporal Pedro Urresta has received a Letter of Commendation after city officials said his attention to inconsistencies during a July 4 traffic stop led investigators to safely recover a 4-year-old child.
Mayor James D. Stewart Jr. and Police Chief Paul Kellogg presented the commendation during the Irondale City Council meeting Tuesday evening, according to WBMA's July 21 report.
Questions during the stop prompted further investigation
City officials said the encounter began as a routine traffic stop. Urresta noticed inconsistencies and continued investigating rather than treating the encounter as routine, according to the city's account reported by WBMA and The Trussville Tribune.
The city said the investigation determined that the child had been trafficked. The child was recovered safely, while a California woman was arrested after authorities learned she was wanted on felony kidnapping and other criminal charges, the reports said.
