LAGUNA BEACH, California — A working sheepdog gave first responders an unexpected assist Friday by guiding a herd of goats away from a foothill trail as police, firefighters and an emergency helicopter responded, according to the Laguna Beach Police Department and local reporting.

Goat herd stood in the response path
The Laguna Beach Police Department said its personnel, Laguna Beach firefighters and Orange County Fire Authority personnel were responding to an emergency Friday when drone pilots recorded crews clearing a trail for a helicopter.
A large herd of goats was moving through the same hillside area. The agency said a sheepdog “stepped up” and guided the animals out of the way so responding units could continue their work.
The released footage shows the white dog running ahead of the herd as the goats move across the dry hillside and away from the trail. Emergency vehicles and the helicopter are visible at different points in the video.
Officials did not disclose the emergency
KTLA reported that the response took place Friday afternoon and that authorities did not disclose the nature of the emergency. ThinBlueNews is therefore not identifying a patient, describing a rescue outcome or adding details not contained in the public agency account.
What the video does establish is a small but memorable piece of field coordination: first responders needed room to work, and a trained herding dog did exactly what such dogs are meant to do.
