FULTON COUNTY, Kentucky — A Fulton County deputy and a City of Hickman officer helped rescue a bald eagle that was tangled in fishing line near Hickman Harbor, according to a WPSD Local 6 report citing the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.

WPSD reported that Fulton County Deputy Jay Black and City of Hickman Officer Matt Hayes responded after the eagle was found entangled near the harbor on Monday.

According to the sheriff’s office statement quoted by WPSD, local fisherman Remington Stewart helped by taking Deputy Black and Officer Hayes by boat across the harbor to reach the eagle.

“Once on scene, responders determined that the eagle’s wing had become entangled in a limb line, leaving the bird unable to free itself,” the sheriff’s office wrote, according to WPSD.

Transferred for wildlife care

The report said the responders placed the eagle in a transport cage and transferred it to Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources personnel for treatment and rehabilitation before a planned release back into its natural habitat.

ThinBlueNews is highlighting the rescue as a small but memorable example of rural public-safety work: officers and deputies often answer calls that are not just about enforcement, but about protecting people, animals and the places their communities share.
