A young officer remembered by his community
ODMP lists Said as 26 years old, badge 10, with one year and two months of service with the Melvindale Police Department. The memorial record says he was survived by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. A WXYZ 7 News Detroit archival report published July 19, 2026 corroborated Said's age, agency and July 21, 2024 line-of-duty death. The report covered more than 100 riders gathering for the “Let's Roll Said Ride,” which supported the Mohamed Said Foundation and honored his life nearly two years after his death.
In that report, Melvindale Police Corporal Mohamed Hacham, identified as Said's former partner and close friend, called him “a hero” and “an inspiration to the community.” Melvindale Police Chief Chris Egan and Mayor Nicole Shkira also spoke about the community's support and the importance of continuing Said's legacy through service.
Two years later, still remembered
This is an anniversary remembrance, offered with respect for Corporal Said's family, friends, fellow officers, the Melvindale Police Department and the Michigan community he served.
Two years after his End of Watch, Mohamed Said is remembered not only for the final call he answered, but also for the example of community service that colleagues and neighbors continue to carry forward.
