Wake County Deputies Honored After CPR and AED Response at Justice Center

May 29, 2026 By Joy Leave a Comment

Six Wake County Sheriff’s Office deputies have been honored for what the sheriff’s office described as a lifesaving response during a medical emergency inside the Wake County Justice Center.

According to a Wake County Government release, Sheriff Willie Rowe awarded the Sheriff’s Commendation to Deputy Olson, Deputy Pero, Deputy Puebla Guerrero, Deputy Knust, Deputy Polo, and Deputy Peterkin during the Wake County Board of Commissioners meeting on May 5, 2026.

The commendations recognized the deputies’ response to an April 13, 2026 medical emergency involving Adam Levy at the Wake County Justice Center, the county said.

Wake County said the group helped move Levy safely to the floor, began chest compressions, and used an automated external defibrillator until firefighters arrived and took over care.

“Each of these deputies took action to work together. Because of their life-saving efforts, the patient is recovering well today,” Sheriff Rowe said in the county release. “We are profoundly grateful for their service and selflessness in the line of duty.”

Levy attended the presentation and met each deputy, according to Wake County. Rowe also presented Levy with a gift from the sheriff’s office.

The Sheriff’s Commendation is awarded at the sheriff’s discretion and recognizes exceptional service, dedication, bravery, or a significant positive impact on the agency or community, the county said.

It is a reminder that lifesaving law-enforcement work is not always a dramatic pursuit. Sometimes it is deputies recognizing a medical emergency, starting CPR, finding the AED, and holding the line until the next wave of help arrives.
