ThinBlueNews remembers Sergeant Linden “Beau” Raimer of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office on the anniversary of his End of Watch, Wednesday, June 13, 2007.
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, Sergeant Raimer was serving in a funeral procession for Deputy First Class Hilery A. Mayo Jr., another St. Tammany Parish deputy who had died in the line of duty four days earlier, when the line-of-duty crash occurred in Covington, Louisiana.
ODMP reports that a violent thunderstorm developed as the procession traveled along West 21st Avenue, and a large pine tree fell onto the patrol car as it passed South Johnson Street. Sergeant Raimer was killed, and Deputy Sheriff Mary Mayo, his fiancée, suffered catastrophic injuries. ODMP lists Sergeant Raimer as 35 years old and says he had served with the sheriff’s office for 10 years.
Local reporting later underscored the long shadow of that same incident. WBRZ reported in 2023 that Mary Mayo died from long-standing medical complications connected to the crash, and WDSU reported that the 2007 procession and the crash remained a deeply felt part of the St. Tammany law-enforcement community’s memory.
This anniversary remembrance is offered with respect for Sergeant Raimer’s family, his St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office colleagues, the Mayo family, and the Louisiana public-safety community that continues to carry the memory of these sacrifices.
Sergeant Raimer’s End of Watch is a solemn reminder that even the act of honoring a fallen colleague can place officers in harm’s way, and that remembrance belongs to every family and agency still carrying the loss.
