SALINE COUNTY, Kansas — Saline County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Alycia Buchanan has been recognized with a commendation after officials said her response to a rural medical call helped save a life.
KSAL reported that Buchanan was presented the commendation for lifesaving actions after responding on June 9 to a call for “heart problems” in rural Saline County.
AED and CPR before medics arrived
According to the local report, Buchanan was led to a patient who was not breathing. KSAL, citing the sheriff’s office, reported that the deputy connected the patient to her issued automated external defibrillator and administered two rounds of CPR until medics relieved her.
The report said Salina EMS transported the patient to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment after Buchanan’s response.
The Saline County Sheriff’s Office said it wanted to acknowledge Deputy Buchanan for her “lifesaving actions and professionalism,” according to KSAL.
A reminder about patrol medical response
For Support Law Enforcement readers, the recognition highlights a part of patrol work that often receives little attention: deputies and officers may be the first trained responders at medical emergencies, especially in rural areas where minutes matter.
