The Officer Down Memorial Page records that Officer Howard was killed in a vehicle crash at approximately 2:50 a.m. at Broadway and Nathan streets in Marked Tree.
ODMP reports that Officer Howard was riding in the passenger seat while on patrol with another officer when their patrol truck collided with a vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign. ODMP says the impact caused the patrol vehicle to overturn, and Officer Howard succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The other officer was taken to a Jonesboro hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
FOX13 Memphis reported, citing Arkansas State Police, that Officer Howard died after the early-morning crash and that Officer Anthony Johnson was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Jonesboro Right Now also reported that Arkansas State Police identified the other Marked Tree officer as Johnson and said the crash involved a driver who failed to stop at a stop sign.
ODMP lists Officer Howard as 25 years old and notes that he had served with the Marked Tree Police Department for nearly two months. This remembrance is offered with respect for his family, his department colleagues, the officers and first responders who answered that scene, and the Arkansas law-enforcement community carrying his memory forward.
