PENSACOLA, Florida — Police officers and firefighters pulled an exhausted man from the water after a current swept him approximately 200 yards along a seawall near Blue Wahoos Stadium, according to a local report citing public-safety officials.
The man suffered minor injuries. Officials did not release his name or additional medical information.
Fishing trip turns into a water rescue
WEAR reported that the emergency began during a weekend fishing trip behind the stadium. The man fell into the water while trying to retrieve his fishing pole, the station reported.
As he treaded water, the current carried him about 200 yards beside the seawall before Pensacola Police Department officers and Pensacola Fire Department crews reached him.
Throw rope, life ring and ladder used together
Officials said police deployed a yellow throw-bag rope and lowered a life ring to the man. Firefighters then lowered a roof ladder into the water, giving responders a route to bring him up from beside the seawall.
