JACKSON COUNTY, Georgia — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has recognized Deputy Brenda Fossett with a Life Saving Award after officials said her quick tourniquet response helped save a woman with severe bleeding, according to Discover Dade.
The local report, citing the sheriff’s office, said Fossett responded to a call involving a woman who had become pinned between a tree and a lawn mower, causing a severe leg injury and significant blood loss.
Tourniquet used before medical crews arrived
According to the report, Fossett assessed the woman’s condition after arriving and used her tourniquet to help control the bleeding while emergency medical personnel were still responding.
Officials said the deputy’s actions helped stabilize the woman until she could be airlifted for further medical treatment. ThinBlueNews is not naming the patient and is not adding medical details beyond the public report.
“Without hesitation, she assessed the situation and took action,” the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said, according to Discover Dade. “Her quick thinking, calm demeanor, and selfless actions played a vital role in providing life-saving care until the victim could be airlifted for further treatment.”
Sheriff’s office praised calm action under pressure
The sheriff’s office praised Fossett’s professionalism, courage and dedication to public service, the report said. The Life Saving Award recognizes actions that directly contribute to preserving life during emergency situations.
For Support Law Enforcement readers, the story is a reminder that lifesaving work often happens before a hospital or ambulance arrives — when an officer, deputy or dispatcher has to make a fast decision with the training and equipment already on hand.
