DUNCAN, Oklahoma — The Duncan Police Department recognized officers and a public-safety telecommunicator for bravery, life-saving action and special-response service during a 2026 awards ceremony, according to a City of Duncan announcement.
The city said the ceremony was held Tuesday, March 31, 2026, and highlighted “the outstanding bravery, dedication, and life-saving actions” of department members.
Police Star and Gallantry Star honors
The department presented the Police Star, described by the city as an award for extraordinary service under dangerous or life-threatening conditions, to Sergeant N. McGouran.
The Gallantry Star, which the city described as recognizing acts of exceptional courage in the face of peril, was awarded to Officer W. Bratcher and Officer D. Ramsey.
Life Saving Award included officers and a telecommunicator
The city said the Life Saving Award is bestowed on officers or public-safety telecommunicators whose quick thinking and actions directly resulted in preserving human life.
The 2026 Life Saving Award recipients named in the Duncan announcement were Master Officer K. Hicks, Officer W. Bratcher and Public Safety Telecommunicator B. Monterrossa.
Captain J. Shoemake also received an Award of Recognition for the Special Response Team, according to the city.
“These officers and telecommunicators exemplify the courage, compassion, and commitment that define our department,” Chief B. Attaway said in the city announcement.
Attaway said the department was honoring people who “stepped forward when others would have stepped back,” and thanked the honorees for exemplary service to the Duncan community.
Why it matters
For Support Law Enforcement readers, the Duncan ceremony is a reminder that lifesaving public-safety work is not limited to one role. Patrol officers, supervisors, special-response personnel and the telecommunicators who handle emergencies all become part of the same chain when lives are at risk.
