ThinBlueNews remembers Deputy Sheriff Theresa Sue King of the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office on the anniversary of her End of Watch, Saturday, June 16, 2018.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, Deputy King and Deputy Sheriff Patrick T. Rohrer were shot during a prisoner transport at the Wyandotte County Correction and Court Services Building in Kansas City, Kansas. Deputy Rohrer died on June 15, and Deputy King died shortly after midnight on June 16.

ODMP records that Deputy King served with the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office for 13 years and was survived by her three children. The Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial also honors Deputy King among Kansas officers who died in the line of duty.

The Associated Press reported in 2018 that both deputies were parents and were attacked while transporting an inmate near the courthouse. A later Associated Press sentencing report said the man responsible pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison.

This anniversary remembrance is offered with respect for Deputy King's children, family, Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office colleagues, Deputy Rohrer's family, and the Kansas City, Kansas community that still carries their names.

Deputy King's End of Watch is a solemn reminder that the work of protecting a community can carry sudden danger, and that fallen deputies deserve to be remembered with dignity beyond the day of the loss.
