ThinBlueNews remembers Deputy Sheriff Patrick T. Rohrer of the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office on the anniversary of his End of Watch, Friday, June 15, 2018.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, Deputy Rohrer and Deputy Sheriff Theresa King were shot during a prisoner transport at the Wyandotte County Correction and Court Services Building in Kansas City, Kansas. Deputy Rohrer died on June 15, 2018; Deputy King died the following day.

ODMP records that Deputy Rohrer had served with the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office for seven years and was survived by his wife, children, parents, sister, and grandmother. The Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial also honors Deputy Rohrer among Kansas officers who died in the line of duty.

The Associated Press reported in 2018 that both deputies were parents and were attacked while transporting an inmate near the courthouse. A later Associated Press sentencing report said the man responsible pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison.

This anniversary remembrance is offered with respect for Deputy Rohrer's family, Deputy King's family, their Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office colleagues, and the Kansas City, Kansas community that still carries their names.

Deputy Rohrer's End of Watch is a reminder that even routine duties can become moments of extraordinary danger, and that remembering a fallen deputy means honoring the life, family, and service behind the badge.
