ThinBlueNews remembers Deputy Sheriff Logan R. Utt of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in Virginia, whose End of Watch was Friday, May 29, 2026.
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, Deputy Utt was shot and killed while responding to a welfare-check call in Cana, Virginia. ODMP lists his cause of death as gunfire and notes that another deputy was struck in the ballistic vest and received medical treatment.
The Virginia Sheriffs' Association reported that two Carroll County deputies were shot while conducting the welfare check, one fatally, and directed the public to Carroll County Sheriff Kevin Kemp's statement on the death of Deputy Utt.
ODMP records that Deputy Utt was a United States Air Force veteran and had served with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office for more than two years. He had also served with the Cana Volunteer Fire Department and the Mount Airy Fire Department. ODMP lists his survivors as his wife, two children, grandmother, two brothers, and two sisters.
Every End of Watch leaves a family, a department, and a community carrying a weight that words cannot fully hold. Deputy Utt's service to country, fire service, and law enforcement will not be forgotten.
