ThinBlueNews remembers Corporal Barry James Foust of the Arlington County Police Department in Virginia, whose End of Watch was Friday, May 22, 2026.

The Arlington County Police Department announced that Corporal Foust died in the line of duty after a courageous battle with 9/11-related cancer. The department said he was on patrol on September 11, 2001, near Walter Reed Drive and Columbia Pike when American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon, and that he remained at the Pentagon site during the following week helping collect evidence and the remains of victims.

According to ODMP's memorial record, Corporal Foust's line-of-duty death was tied to cancer that developed following his response to the Pentagon and later search-and-recovery assignment after the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Arlington County Police said Corporal Foust began his ACPD career in 1986, later served as a certified Motor Officer, retired in 2019 after more than three decades of service, then continued serving with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department before returning to ACPD in December 2022. ODMP records his total law-enforcement service at 37 years.

The department remembered him as a beloved member of the ACPD family and said his legacy of service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. ODMP lists his survivors as his wife, daughter, sisters, and granddaughter.

Some line-of-duty deaths come years after the call, but the cost of service is no less real. Corporal Foust answered on one of America's darkest mornings and kept serving long after it.
