Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw said the loss would have a profound impact on the Toronto Police family, and Toronto Police Association President Clayton Campbell said Constable Pinizzotto was with his team conducting a high-risk takedown when he was fatally shot.

TPS said Constable Pinizzotto served with the department for 18 years and had been a member of the Emergency Task Force for the past five years. CBC News also reported that a suspect was expected to face a first-degree murder charge after the fatal shooting during the investigation.
