ThinBlueNews remembers Youth Counselor Corey Proulx of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections on the anniversary of his End of Watch, Tuesday, June 25, 2024.
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, Counselor Proulx died from injuries he suffered after an assault at Lincoln Hills School in Irma, Wisconsin. ODMP lists his date of incident as June 24, 2024, and his End of Watch as June 25, 2024.
ODMP records that Counselor Proulx was 49 years old and served with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers' Executive Order #231 said Proulx served as a youth counselor, had returned to the department in 2023, and was remembered for compassion, service, and a lasting positive impact on youth and colleagues.
The governor's order directed U.S. and Wisconsin flags to be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect. State public statements in the days after his death also identified Proulx by name and honored his service to the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
This anniversary remembrance is offered with respect for Counselor Proulx's family, friends, coworkers, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, and the public servants who work in correctional and youth-facility roles that are too often overlooked.
Counselor Proulx's End of Watch is a solemn reminder that correctional and youth-facility staff also stand in danger while protecting others, and that their sacrifice deserves to be remembered with dignity beyond the day of the loss.
