Shot while responding to an armed-person call
According to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel, as reported by 6abc, officers were dispatched shortly after 12:20 a.m. to the 100 block of North 52nd Street for a report of a man with a gun on a porch. Gunfire struck Seiber and another officer after they arrived.
Seiber was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. The other wounded officer was reported in stable condition. Authorities said a suspect was taken into custody and charges were pending.
A husband, father and 10-year veteran
The Associated Press and The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Seiber was a 10-year department veteran. He is survived by his wife and two young children.
Commissioner Bethel said Seiber’s wife and family were able to be with him before he died. Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker called his choice to serve noble and courageous.
