ThinBlueNews remembers Police Officer John G. Bartholomew of the Chicago Police Department, whose End of Watch was Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The Chicago Police Department's April 2026 in Review said the department was mourning Officer Bartholomew, who was shot and killed in the line of duty. CPD also said his partner was shot and critically injured.
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, Officer Bartholomew was assigned to the Albany Park District and had served with the Chicago Police Department for 10 years. ODMP records that he was shot during an incident connected to a robbery suspect who had been transported to Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital.
Superintendent Larry Snelling said in the April CPD release that Officer Bartholomew dedicated his life to protecting Chicagoans and described him as a beloved father, husband, son, and brother. In CPD's May 2026 in Review, the department said it had bid a final farewell to Officer Bartholomew and remained grateful for the support shown by community members and law-enforcement partners.
This remembrance is offered with respect for Officer Bartholomew's family, his partner and fellow officers, the Albany Park District, the Chicago Police Department, and the Chicago community carrying his memory forward.
Officer Bartholomew's End of Watch is a solemn reminder that service can demand everything without warning, and that a fallen officer's name should be carried with dignity, accuracy, and care.
