NEW LONDON, Conn. — Police officers pulled an unconscious man and woman from the water near a downtown pier early Sunday morning, according to local reports citing the New London Police Department.
The two people were taken to a hospital for emergency treatment and remained hospitalized under medical care when police released information about the response. Authorities had not publicly identified them or released further medical details.
Patrol officers respond near Bank Street Connector
According to WFSB, officers were patrolling the downtown area at about 1:43 a.m. on July 26 when they learned that two people were drowning near the pier at the end of the Bank Street Connector.
Officers responded and pulled both people from the water. NBC Connecticut reported that neither the man nor the woman was conscious or alert when officers removed them.
The New London Fire Department also responded and transported the pair for emergency medical care, WFSB reported.
Chief praises quick, decisive response
New London Police Chief Brian M. Wright commended the officers and firefighters for acting during what he described as a critical, life-threatening situation.

The incident remained under investigation. Police asked anyone with information to contact the New London Police Department at (860) 447-5269, Ext. 0. A coordinated first-response chain
The available public reporting does not establish how the two people entered the water, and ThinBlueNews is not speculating while the investigation continues. What is established is the sequence authorities described: patrol officers were alerted, entered the rescue response, pulled two unresponsive people from the water and handed them into emergency medical care with firefighters.
