FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Fairbanks Police Lieutenant Dennis Benn has retired after a 23-year law-enforcement career, including more than 18 years with the Fairbanks Police Department, according to Your Alaska Link reporting that cited the department.

The station reported that Benn’s service included leadership and training roles across the agency, including Patrol Division Commander, SWAT Team Commander and Leader, Tactical Police Team Member, Field Training and Evaluation Program Coordinator, Patrol Sergeant, Field Training Officer and Lieutenant.

During a retirement ceremony, Benn was honored with two of the department’s highest awards: the Police Medal and the Distinguished Service Medal, according to the report.

Your Alaska Link reported that Fairbanks Police said Benn’s legacy will continue through the officers he trained and the teams he led during his career.

The recognition is a reminder that public-safety service is often measured not only by one dramatic call, but by years of training officers, leading teams and carrying responsibility through ordinary shifts that most people never see.
