Thin Blue News remembers Border Patrol Agent David R. Delaney on November 2, 2026, fourteen years after his End of Watch. This is an anniversary remembrance, not a report of a new death. His official U.S. Customs and Border Protection memorial preserves a career that took him through several Border Patrol sectors before his assignment in West Texas.
A Border Patrol career beginning in 2002
According to CBP’s official memorial for David R. Delaney, he entered on duty on December 12, 2002, as a member of the 536th academy session. After graduation, he was assigned to the Calexico Station in the El Centro Sector.
The agency records subsequent transfers to the Houlton and Grand Forks sectors. In 2011, Delaney settled at the Big Bend National Park Sub-Station of Alpine Station in the Big Bend Sector. These are the assignments documented by his agency; this remembrance does not infer additional duties from the memorial photograph.
End of Watch: November 2, 2012
CBP records Delaney’s End of Watch as November 2, 2012. Its memorial says he collapsed and died while patrolling on foot near Big Bend National Park in Texas. This remembrance keeps that official account brief and does not speculate about medical details or reconstruct the event.
The Officer Down Memorial Page record lists him as David Richard Delaney and corroborates the November 2, 2012 End of Watch date. This article uses the name David R. Delaney as presented by CBP.
