NASHVILLE, Tenn. — An off-duty Florida police officer vacationing hundreds of miles from home ran toward a downtown pedestrian crash and performed CPR on a critically injured woman while emergency crews responded, according to his department.
WPEC reported Wednesday that Boynton Beach Police Officer Chase Thompson was off duty in Nashville when a vehicle struck four pedestrians at Fourth Avenue and Broadway.
Off duty, but ready to help
The Boynton Beach Police Department said Thompson immediately moved toward the scene and began providing lifesaving aid to one of the victims. Drawing on his law-enforcement training, he performed CPR until emergency crews could take over.

Days later, the injured woman’s husband publicly thanked Thompson. According to WPEC, he called the officer a hero and said Thompson’s efforts gave their family more time together.
