The Maui Police Department’s 100th Recruit Class graduated at the Grand Wailea Resort on October 22, 2026, according to the department’s release. The ceremony marked graduation, not clearance for the officers to begin working alone.

This is a recent feature on the October 22 ceremony, not a breaking-news report. The department published its announcement on October 22, 2026.

Field training comes next

The department says the graduates will undergo a minimum of four months of on-the-job field training with veteran police officers before they are qualified to work alone. For residents following the class’s progress, that supervised training is the next step described in the announcement.

The release lists twelve graduates, including Johannes Villanueva, whom it identifies as a lateral officer graduate. The list should not be read as twelve people all entering policing for the first time.

Recognition at graduation

Recruit Aaron Decoite received the Outstanding Recruit Award. The department also announced these awards:

  • Recruit Elika Laloulu: Sensei Shinichi Suzuki Award for Arrest and Defense Tactics.
  • Recruit Sholto Leaso: Applied Policing Excellence Award.
  • Recruit Sy Delos Santos: M. Cecil “Rusty” Dickson Physical Fitness Award.
  • Recruit Dayne Kubo: Neil T. Endo Outstanding Firearms Award and Scholastic Achievement Award.
