LINCOLN, Nebraska — The Lincoln Police Department announced a high-visibility seat belt enforcement project scheduled for November 5 through 30. The department says officers will increase enforcement across the city as part of the national Make It Click campaign.

When and where officers will focus

In its release dated November 04, 2026, LPD said targeted enforcement will take place throughout Lincoln. The announced emphasis includes evenings, weekends and the Thanksgiving holiday — periods the department identifies as times when seat belt use may be lower.

For people arranging evening drives, weekend outings or Thanksgiving travel in Lincoln, those are the periods highlighted in the announcement. The project is citywide, rather than described as an effort limited to a single road.

The stated goal and funding

LPD says the aim goes beyond issuing citations: the department wants to increase awareness, encourage responsible driving habits and prevent avoidable road tragedies. Those are the project's stated objectives, not measured results from this enforcement period.

The department says the initiative is supported by grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office.

The November 4 announcement sets out the planned enforcement window and priorities. Drivers can consult the linked LPD release for the department's notice; this report does not assert that the project has already changed seat belt use or crash outcomes.
