Three Hendersonville, Tennessee police officers were recognized after two emergency responses in which quick action helped victims survive, according to local reporting citing Hendersonville Police Department officials.
The Hendersonville Standard reported that Hendersonville Police Chief Jim Jones presented Lifesaver Awards to Master Patrol Officer Troy VanAmburg, Officer Jeremy Lanas and Officer Noah Hrobsky.
According to the report, VanAmburg, Lanas and Hrobsky responded to a critical call involving a victim who had called 911 after suffering serious bodily injury from being strangled. The victim was struggling to breathe and could not communicate effectively, HPD officials said in the report.
The officers recognized the emergency circumstances and forced entry when they arrived, according to the report. Working as a team, they took the suspect into custody.
Officials later said the victim could have died from her injuries if the officers had not acted immediately and if she had not reached the emergency room quickly, according to the Hendersonville Standard.
A separate response involved VanAmburg and Lanas arriving to assist on an EMS call. The report said Lanas immediately took over CPR from a family member while the patient was unresponsive and had no pulse.
Officer Lanas continued CPR as EMS arrived. EMS personnel began using an AED, and Lanas was later advised to stop CPR after the patient regained a pulse and started breathing, according to the report. The patient was transported to a hospital for recovery.
“Our officers and their consistent bravery and dedication to duty is truly exceptional,” the department said via social media, according to the Hendersonville Standard.
The recognition is a reminder that lifesaving police work can look different from call to call: forced entry when a victim cannot safely communicate, CPR when a family is waiting for EMS, and officers making fast decisions while the clock is moving.
