FREDERICK, Maryland — Ten officers representing the Frederick, Westminster and Taneytown police departments graduated from the Frederick Police Academy on October 29, 2026, according to the Frederick Police Department's release posted October 29, 2026.
The 70th Police Academy Class completed months of training. The department said the graduation ceremony took place at Frederick Community College’s Jack B. Kussmaul Theater.
Training for decisions, not just tactics
According to the department, instruction covered criminal and constitutional law, de-escalation, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, firearms proficiency and crisis intervention. Scenario-based exercises emphasized communication, sound decision-making and community engagement.
“Graduating from the academy is an important achievement, but it's also the beginning of a much greater responsibility,” Frederick Police Chief Kevin Meyer said in the release.
Who graduated
The department's roster lists seven Frederick graduates, two Westminster graduates and one Taneytown graduate:
- Frederick Police Department: Cole Grunwell, Joshua Mays, Drew McKeown, Trenton Smith, Tyler Webster, Thomas Wheeler and Aiden Young.
- Westminster Police Department: Kyrollos Abdelsayed and Joseph Lutz.
- Taneytown Police Department: Joshua Adamson.
Field training is next for Frederick recruits
Frederick Police Department recruits will next enter the Field Training and Evaluation Program, the department said. They will work alongside experienced field training officers to apply their academy instruction in real-world situations and prepare for independent patrol duties.
The release describes that next step specifically for Frederick recruits; it does not specify the post-academy assignments for Westminster or Taneytown graduates.
